Résumé
The 18th century, marked by dramatic political upheavals, intellectual revolutions, and cultural shifts, also witnessed a significant, though often underestimated, transformation in the role of women in European society. As the Enlightenment spread across Europe, championing ideas of reason, liberty, and equality, it ignited discussions not only about the political rights of men but also about the potential and rights of women.
These centuries-especially the long reign of Louis XIV of France, the turbulent French Revolution, and the Enlightenment's intellectual ferment-set the stage for a redefinition of gender roles in society. Yet, even within these broader social and political transformations, women continued to wrestle with being the subjects of ideologies that largely excluded them from positions of overt political power.
