Résumé

You and I are here in Damascus because we're following the biblical character Jacob who is on the run from his brother Esau/Edom the Red. Jacob may represent the patriarch/hero of my proposed Yahwist reformers. Edom the Red may represent Herod the Great. Both pairs of characters have a claim to the biblical Promised Land. God notions are always promising political Promised Lands to humans down here on the floor of the Dome of Heaven.
The God notions of Sargon, Hammurabi, Nebuchadnezzar, Alexander and others made good on their promises. The Yahweh deity of the biblical writings never quite did, but biblical characters like Jesus still lived in hope . and certain people still live in hope today. The biblical writings are political writings, and political writings are often full of defamatory political propaganda aimed at opponents and exaggerated claims made for the heroes.
Biblical propaganda is just a little different. On our excursion from Damascus to Egypt we'll see how the propagandist writers and re-writers and re-re-writers have once again buttered both sides of their unleavened bread. And then we'll pause once again to ponder who the propagandists and the re-propagandists and the-re-re-propagandists may have been, and why certain people today still tweak the biblical writings to have scripture as written fit belief as held.
