The Weight of a Feather

Long after the great pyramids were built - and quietly misunderstood- life in ancient Egypt continued. Rituals were still performed.  The dead were still remembered. And the world, as always, was changing.  Iset-nefret works at the between what endures.  She prepares the dead, speaks the old words, and keeps the delicate balance that allows both Gods and people to carry on.  She is practical, observant, and deeply familiar with the small things that keep sacred systems from breaking.
When an unfinished pyramid rises nearby and traditions begin to to shift, Iset-nefertiti finds herself becoming more procedural, monuments are no longer trusted, and remembrance matters more than perfection. Alongside an overworked , a conscientious scribe, and a newly deceased king still learning the rules of his existence, she helps guide him through quiet transformation.  The Weight of a Feather is a literary work of historical fiction set in Middle Kingdom Egypt, blending accurate ancient ceremonies and beliefs with dry humour and intimate human moments.
 Rather than focusing on spectacle and mystery, it explores how people adapt when systems no longer function as intended- and how meaning survives through memory, practice and relationship rather than stone.
