What do you think of when you think about rock? I suppose really you don't think about rock very much!Unless you're a geologist or someone that studies that sort of thing. I suppose most people think of a rock as something dead, something inanimate. Something that doesn't change except after the passage of a great deal of time. But rock in this reading relates to the living and is all about solidity, strength, support, foundation.
Jesus could very well have said, "Upon this rock I will found My Church" As we look at these and other verses, we will see that:1. Peter is the rock2. Jesus is the Rock3. The revelation is the rock4. The words of Jesus are the rock5. The gates of Hades or hell will not stand against it.
