The Eternal Draft

Jabir has spent years writing novels no one is allowed to read. Alone in a fading riad in Rabat, he completes manuscript after manuscript, then destroys each one before it can leave the room. To him, a finished book is already in danger: of being misunderstood, reduced, praised for the wrong reasons, or taken from the private silence that made it possible. Then Amina, a young literature student, discovers fragments of one of his burned drafts in a market in Temara.
Her arrival unsettles the carefully defended world Jabir has built around his work. What begins as a confrontation over a lost manuscript becomes something deeper and more dangerous: an argument about grief, beauty, control, and the strange violence of withholding what is alive. As Amina presses him to face the human cost of his rituals, Jabir is forced back toward the memories he has avoided for years: his father's unfinished writings, a woman who once read an entire manuscript and left, and the many books he has kept from the world in the name of protecting them.
