The July 20 in 1967 incident in Wuhan was a milestone in the Cultural Revolution, after being hit by this incident, Mao Zedong decided to abandon the Red Guards completely and put the army and the conservative masses in important position, and this is the turning point of Mao's strategic transformation. This book used the photos, newspapers and other materials reappear around the events, Mao Zedong was sitting in Wuhan "battle array", Zhou Enlai, Xie Fuzhi and Wang Li accompanied Mao Zedong in Wuhan and were ordered to support Wuhan's "Left mass" organizations which were Mao affirmed, and criticized Wuhan's conservative organization "Million Heroes" which supported by Wuhan military region of PLA's commander Chen Zaidao and other officers, but it infuriated the overwhelming conservative masses, so there was an unprecedented mass protest against Party Central officials' Xie Fuzhi and Wang Li, and Wang Li was beaten and wounded.
Fortunately, the secret work of Mao's whereabouts was well done. The Wuhan people did not know that Mao lived near the residences of Xie Fuzhi and Wang Li at this time, otherwise the consequences of the incident would be more serious. Under the planning of Zhou Enlai, Mao fled from Wuhan to Shanghai in a difficult position. Lin Biao and Jiang Qing and others arranged nationwide grand celebrations for Xie Fuzhi and Wang Li "hero" "glory" back to Beijing. Later no matter the commander Chen Zaidao or the leaders of the rebel or conservative organizations and other influential men in the Cultural Revolution were criticized and denounced to almost death.
