Résumé

Dr Chris Denz: Persistence in Practice is a powerful biography of an Australian medical leader whose life demonstrates that lasting success is built through consistency, integrity and effort. Born in Huntly, New Zealand, Chris Denz grew up shaped by family, discipline and the outdoors, while also navigating bullying and adversity that quietly strengthened his resolve. A scholarship to boarding school proved pivotal, reinforcing values of accountability and hard work that would guide him throughout life.
Chris pursued medicine at Otago University, supporting himself through physically demanding jobs while completing his studies. Graduating in 1983, he viewed his medical degree not as status, but as a tool for contribution. After early professional challenges in New Zealand, he relocated to Australia, where opportunity emerged through persistence rather than planning. In Western Australia, Chris recognised inefficiencies in medical practice systems and resolved to build something better.
Founding Forrest Chase Medical Centre and later developing one of Perth's busiest medical hubs, he combined clinical excellence with strong business discipline. His leadership philosophy was clear: quality before quantity, fairness in reward, accountability in decision-making, and systems designed to outlast individuals. His journey was not without major trials. Legal disputes, commercial risk, and two cancer diagnoses tested both health and resolve.
Each was met methodically-with research, preparation and trust in well-built systems and people. Central to Chris's life has been community service, mentorship and family. Married to his wife Chin since 1989, he considers his partnership and family among his greatest achievements. Part of the Not Ordinary Lives: Movers & Shakers series, this biography honours a man whose persistence in practice-medical, personal and ethical-created a legacy that endures.
