Résumé

Believers, we live in dark times. Times of great depravity, decadence, cruelty, violence, mayhem, idolatry, and danger. Picture this world like a dark wood: it is an eerie, foreboding, scary, and full of threats and pitfalls. It is a dark place of monsters and beasts. In this dark wood, we are all in danger of getting lost in the eerie darkness. This world, after all, promises us all kinds of pleasures, yet is nothing more than poison.
Yet, all these temptations, seductions, and gratifications only lead down a path of self-destruction. In the fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel were lost in the woods and couldn't find their way home. Just so, we are all 'lost' without Christ. Without Christ, we are all doomed to be devoured by the devil, who is every witch, monster, and beast rolled into one. The reality is, without Christ, there is no fairy tale ending.
Hansel and Gretel were fortunate to escape with their lives, but this is not the truth for those who reject the Lord. The flame that leads us out of the woods and into safety in Jesus, no one else, and nothing else. Jesus is the Light of the World.  Light changes everything. Where light enters, darkness must leave. Jesus did not say, "I show the light" or "I point to the light." He declared, "I am the light of the world." This was not poetry-it was a claim of divine identity, divine authority, and divine mission.
In Him, we find our way out of the woods and into eternal hope. The two volumes of Flame in the Woods are a collection of prophetic thoughts and ideas, but also devotions, leading us to Christ and the importance of abiding in His majesty.
