Résumé
Der Band untersucht - ausgehend von den Impulsen der Wittenberger Reformation - den Zusammenhang zwischen der Rechtfertigungslehre und dem sozialen Engagement der Christen bzw. Kirchen. Luthers These war, dass Christen spontan Nächstenliebe üben würden. Aber ist das plausibel? Sind Christen folglich sozialer? Historische Beiträge heben in dieser Perspektive Entwicklungen in der Neugestaltung sozialer Versorgung nach 1517 hervor und beleuchten die Zusammenhänge mit der Entstehung des modernen Sozialstaats.
Die Bedeutung von Nächstenliebe und Altruismus für die heutige Arbeit der Diakonie wird mit theoretischen und empirischen Analysen unterfüttert. Ergänzt durch Beiträge aus der diakonischen Praxis treten Vorzüge und Ambivalenzen von Nächstenliebe im professionellen sozialen Handeln deutlich hervor. [Ambivalences of Charity. Social Consequences of the Reformation] This volume examines - based on the ideas of the Wittenberg Reformation - the correlation between the doctrine of justification and the social commitment of Christians and Churches.
Luther assumed that Christians would serve their neighbour spontaneously. Is this plausible? Are Christian people generally more socially-minded? Historic contributions highlight the development in the reorganisation of social care after 1517 and examine the interrelation with the formation of the modern welfare state. Theoretical and empirical studies acknowledge the significance of charity and altruism for the present-day work of diaconia.
Supplementary comments from diaconic practice show the benefits as well as ambiguities of Christian charity within professional social work.
