On suit l’existence étouffante de Winston, habitant de l’empire Oceania, coincé dans un quotidien où le pouvoir (incarné par l’immortel Big Brother) vous surveille en permanence, appauvrit votre pensée, vous lave le cerveau, incite à la délation, faisant régner une peur permanente. Dans ce quotidien glauque, il y a une lueur d’espoir pour Winston, une histoire d’amour naissante mais qui sera rapidement étouffée et d’une terrible manière.
Encore aujourd’hui, la dimension de classique qu’a ce chef d’œuvre ne se dément pas.
Le livre fermé, il continue de nous faire réfléchir et on met un petit moment à se remettre de cette claque. Cette œuvre révèle tellement de choses sur le contrôle de nos vies, sur l’importance de la liberté. Un chef d’œuvre.
