“ Corny, bland writing ”

The story line is not so bad but the writing technique is appalling. Adjectives such as "bobby" and "cool" are everywhere and the word "alien" is used as simile so many times I lost count. The characters, bar the uncle, are either rather thin, corny or barely credible. The ending is predictable, although it needn't be, but unfortunately the unravelling of the mystery is so awkwardly sloshed on the page that there is no real surprise. As for the so-called climax, it may not be plausible but it is certainly worth a cringe. I had read the other reviews before buying this book and I can't believe it was such a success. It would seem that quality writing is not a criteria for a bestseller.
