Susanne Bohne a fait des études de littérature allemande et a travaillé en tant que graphiste avant que sa fille ne lui donne envie de commencer à écrire et illustrer des livres pour enfants avec pour personnage Chachou la Chenille. Elle pense que l'humour aide à voir la vie du bon côté et que les petites choses de la vie importent souvent plus qu'il n'y paraît. Son roman La maison penchée (Das schräge Haus, non traduit en français), publié en décembre 2019 aux éditions Rowohlt Taschenbuch, aborde également ce sujet. Sur son blog "Hallo liebe Wolke" , Susanne Bohne parle de sa vie quotidienne entre l'écriture et la maternité.
