Né à Rome en août 1880, Guillaume Apollinaire est mort à Paris en novembre 1918. D’origine polonaise, cet écrivain et poète est l’un des plus importants du début du XXe siècle. Guillaume Apollinaire a étudié au collège Saint-Charles de Monaco puis dans des lycées de Cannes et de Nice. Décrit comme un élève docile, pieux et brillant, ce dernier n’arrive pas à décrocher son baccalauréat. Toutefois, il est titulaire d’un diplôme de sténographie qui lui a valu de travailler en qualité d’employé de banque et de précepteur. Il enchaîne les relations amoureuses avec son lot de déceptions. Ami de Pablo Picasso, André Derain, Paul Gordeaux, Jean Metzinger et Edmond-Marie Poullain. il commence à gagner sa vie avec sa plume, en publiant de nombreuses œuvres poétiques et contes. Sortie en 1913, « Alcools » est l’une des publications les plus connues de Guillaume Apollinaire. Dans ce recueil de poèmes, l’auteur apparaît déchiré et anéanti par ses déceptions amoureuses.
