Résumé
Wild imagination and humour are used to lure readers into a macabre world where prehistoric civilisation, mortals, the ancestors and dark ancient practices live side by side. During sacred rituals the indigenous people abandon the physical world, fleetingly oscillating between death and rebirth. Their otherworldly nimbleness and eerie wakefulness merge with an uncanny stupor each time they commune with departed relatives. Dead relatives are invited onto the physical world to share wisdom and abilities to perform otherworldly deeds.
This strong ancestral bond grants mortals some special powers to summon or halt rain, to heal, to perform terrifying miracles, and even shapeshift into animals to evade or spy on enemies. Gold and other minerals resources are skilfully mined, transformed into artifacts and tools for global trade. Early European explorers are spellbound by this civilisation upon being welcomed by the natives. Driven by envy and spite, the European explorers introduce their own religion and slowly turn the natives against their own ancestors.
The ancestors are angered by this betrayal, and wrath is loosened upon the land. This chasm between the people and their ancestors results in the loss of indigenous knowledge and clairvoyance - paving way for trans-Atlantic slavery and Colonialisation.
