Résumé

When the Heart Wept is a formally crafted poetry collection that traces the quiet arc of love, from awakening to fracture, from collapse to the slow work of becoming whole again. Through sonnets and carefully structured lyric poems, this book explores the intimacy of attachment, the subtle shifts that undo connection, and the private architecture of grief. It does not dramatize heartbreak; it examines it, room by room, silence by silence.
Moving through five emotional territories, The Bloom, The Fracture, The Collapse, The Aftermath, and The Becoming, the collection offers an honest meditation on what it means to lose, to reflect, and to continue. This is not a book about dramatic endings. It is a book about what remains after them.
Isaac Baitwababo is a Ugandan author, poet, and storyteller whose work moves between the lyrical and the literary with uncommon grace. Writing from the heart of East Africa, he has published over ten books spanning poetry collections and literary fiction, a body of work that reflects both the depth of the African interior and the restless searching of a young intellectual coming into his own. Isaac is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering and Environmental Management at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, a pursuit that deepens rather than contradicts his literary identity, evidence that he sees no wall between science and story, between the measurable world and the one that can only be felt.
He writes because the heart insists. And because some truths only survive as literature.
