The oppressive heat of August 1814 brings with it the smoke of an approaching British war machine, threatening to extinguish the fragile flame of American independence. Amidst the panic gripping Washington D. C., Ronald Davies moves as a shadow among shadows. To the government, he is a vital cog in the intelligence apparatus; to the moon, he is a creature of ancient myth-a werewolf struggling to keep the beast within leashed while serving a nation on the brink of collapse.
The conflict escalates when Ronald discovers that the British have deployed more than just soldiers. Clandestine reports reveal the arrival of "The Hunters"-arcane trackers who perceive the "emanations of unnatural power" and hunt supernatural beings with surgical finality. Tasked by President James Madison with a mission of paramount secrecy, Ronald must secure vital state documents and oversee a contingency plan for the government's survival.
As the city is set ablaze, Ronald's mission becomes personal. He joins forces with the resolute First Lady, Dolley Madison, to rescue the iconic Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington from the burning Executive Mansion. Together, they face the "Silver Jackets, " an elite British unit wielding alchemical weaponry specifically designed to disrupt and unmake supernatural physiology. Caught between two worlds, Ronald must finally embrace his lupine power to confront the "Alpha" of the Hunters in an obsidian chamber beneath the ruins of the Senate.
In a final, desperate clash of ancient magic and human defiance, Ronald fights to ensure a new dawn for the nation, even as his victory leaves him a forever-solitary ghost in the land he has sworn to protect.
