Verity est un thriller qui cache bien son jeu.
Ne vous fiez ni à sa jolie couleur turquoise, ni à l’auteure, Colleen Hoover, connue jusqu’ici pour ses romans sentimentaux, ou encore à ses dix premières pages qui ne laissent pas présager ce qui va suivre et qui va vous scotcher à votre canapé.
Elle a décidé avec ce titre de s’essayer à un nouveau genre, et, pour ma part, j’espère qu’elle renouvellera souvent l’expérience !
Je ne m’attendais vraiment pas à ça, ou en tout cas, pas à un niveau pareil.
Si les thrillers de chez Hugo & Cie font toujours très bien
leur job, celui-là a carrément dépasser mes espérances.
Nous sommes ici dans un thriller psychologique pur jus, en huis clos, avec des personnages tourmentés et des thèmes pour le moins difficiles.
Et ça marche, ça marche même diablement bien.
J’avoue avoir eu la chair de poule (au ses propre !) plus d’une fois, voire même la nausée, et ce malgré l’absence totale de scènes horrifiques, je vous rassure tout de suite.
Non, c’est bel et bien les sujets dont traite le roman, et surtout la façon dont l’auteure fait monter la tension crescendo, qui créent ce sentiment d’angoisse grandissant.
Alors, oui, certaines tournures, certaines petits passages, laissent peut-être entr’apercevoir la plume romantique de Miss Hoover. Mais derrière ça, l’ambiance est si glaçante, si parfaite, qu’on oublie très vite ces petits détails.
L’intrigue, les personnages, le déroulé, le rythme, et même la fin, j’ai tout aimé dans ce roman.
Non seulement il fait le boulot, mais en plus ils vous poussera à en redemander.
Un thriller qui pourra rassembler autant les accros du genre, en recherche de quelque chose de différent, que ceux qui débutent dans cette catégorie.
Donc si vous aimez les thrillers psychologiques bien fichus et que vous trouvez Verity, en faisant les courses, ou tous simplement sur un des nombreux sites de ventes de livres, puisque les libraires sont contraints à la fermeture, n’hésitez pas une seconde et procurez vous ce titre.
Un très bon roman, à dévorer pendant ce confinement, ou pour tout autre occasion !
Un thriller psychologique sombre, perturbant et surprenant
Dans ce thriller psychologique, Colleen Hoover explore un tout autre angle de la littérature et de l’écriture. En effet, on la connait avant tout pour ses nombreuses romances mais dans Verity, elle va plus loin et se prête à un nouvel exercice de style : celui du thriller mais tout en alliant sa passion pour l’amour, l’écriture, les livres. Et, va encore plus loin en y intégrant de la tension psychologique, de la manipulation d’esprit, de la noirceur et de la malsanité. Elle pousse les vices de chaque personnage à leur limite.
Ainsi l’autrice exploite la perversité de l’écriture. Jusqu’où est-on prêt à aller pour créer un monstre ? Déterrer des sombres secrets ? Exploiter le plus noir de notre personnage ? De son soi ? Qu’est-ce qui est réel ou qu’est-ce qui tient de l’imagination ? Que se passe-t-il quand la peur se mêle à l’excitation et à la non-réalité ? Est-ce que notre réalité peut biaiser notre jugement ?
Entre ce que l’on croit et ce que l’on suppose être vrai, il n’y a qu’un pas.
