Résumé
The pursuit of Happiness is the common goal of every living being. All around the world, human beings toil day and night, ultimately, for the single purpose of being happy. In this age of scientific and technological advancement, we now have greater access to products and services that give us comfort and entertainment. But it is apparent that these facilities which provide material comforts don't seem to have a lasting effect on our state of Happiness.
Can one's state of Happiness be more lasting and, perhaps, ever-increasing? If so, what is the nature of such a state of Happiness? And what are the ways through which such a state of Happiness can be attained? This article attempts to address and examine these questions more deeply. Dr. T. D. Singh, the celebrated author of over two dozen renowned publications on the interface of science and spirituality, provides us with an insightful perspective of understanding the nature of Happiness and its attainment by delving deep into the principles enunciated in Vedanta (the essence of all Vedic literature).
As a scientist with a PhD from the University of California, Irvine, and a Vedantist in the Bhakti-Vedanta tradition of India, Dr. Singh offers fresh insights on the topic from both the modern scientific understanding and the age-old wisdom of Vedanta. Dr. T. D. Singh (His Holiness Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami) has a unique background. He is a scientist with a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine, USA, as well as a spiritualist in the Bhakti-Vedanta tradition of India.
He has authored and edited a number of books on science and religion, including his famous dialogue with Prof. Roger Penrose: Science, Spirituality and the Nature of Reality. He is the Founder Director of the Bhaktivedanata Institute and has been one of the pioneers in advancing the dialogue between science and religion over the past three decades.
