Tira Returns

A jungle village. A promise kept. A debt that won't stay buried. Tira locks her door every night because she promised her husband she would. It's a small thing. The kind of promise a wife makes when her husband is sent away for six weeks and she doesn't want him lying awake somewhere three ridgelines off, worrying over nothing. It isn't nothing. The headman's son has wanted her since before she was married, and men like Tungking don't count a "no" as an answer - they count it as a delay.
He starts showing up after dark. Standing where she can hear him. Waiting for the six weeks to run out. They don't run out fast enough. What happens to Tira on the path home from market is the kind of thing a village tells itself a gentler story about, because the true one is too ugly to live next to. A woman lost her footing at dusk. A tragedy, and nothing more. Everyone agrees to believe it - everyone except the jungle itself, which has never once in its long memory forgotten a debt it was owed.
Something comes back. It doesn't come back loud, or fast, or the way the men who wronged her expect. It comes back patient - and it has all the time in the world to collect. Tira Returns is a slow, aching descent into Southeast Asian folklore horror, where love and vengeance grow so entangled you can no longer tell which one is doing the haunting.
