Today, American democracy is widely considered to be in a state of serious disarray and needing urgent repair. This is largely because of its extremely toxic confrontational politics, pursued relentlessly both internally and internationally by the politicians of its two parties. USA's world leadership is in jeopardy because it is obsessed with its own narrow national interest, US democracy is under grave threat.
There have been too much money politics, with millionaires and corporations financing their chosen candidates to influence the outcome of elections to secure their exclusive benefits. A US president in touch with the real situation of USA at home and internationally would no doubt declare: "The state of the union is fragile."
