Résumé
Seventeen years after Cassian Ordelune died at an Avenmeer bridge, Rayford Aquirre and Liora Serevan have built separate lives around incompatible versions of that night. Rayford trusts structure, evidence, and explanations. Liora trusts tone, silence, and the truths the body recognises before the mind can name them. At the funeral of their formidable former mentor, Isolde van Aelst, they are reunited by an unusual provision in her will: together, they must reconstruct and prepare her final manuscript for publication.
Rayford inherits seven meticulously organised notebooks. Liora receives dozens of cassette tapes with no apparent order. Neither archive can be understood without the other. As the recordings begin anticipating their arguments and the missing notebooks expose contradictions buried for seventeen years, the manuscript becomes an investigation - not only into Cassian's death, but into the choices each survivor has spent years explaining away.
A car beneath a broken streetlamp. Two conflicting letters. A man erased from the official account. Seventy-four unexamined seconds. And one final recording they may not be willing to hear. The Third Language is a literary psychological mystery about memory, guilt, intimacy, and the dangerous distance between explaining another person and truly recognising what they need. Some truths are not hidden.
They are divided.
