Résumé

The mid-boss is dead. The boss floor is waiting. And someone outside the System just sent Talen a personal message. Nine days ago, Talen Voss was a nobody running late to a job he didn't care about. Now he's Level 15, carrying thirteen skills built from blood and shadow, wearing a cloak that absorbs light and boots that let him walk through darkness like a door. He cleared the first dungeon in Chicago.
He exposed a faction conspiracy. He survived a Grade B dungeon that turned every other combat group in the city back at the entrance. He should feel like he's winning. He doesn't. Because the Abyssal Rift's boss floor is still unmarked. Because there's a notification on his screen with no System formatting, no blue border, no standard font - just a message from someone who placed his class inside the System before the apocalypse even started:You found it.
Let's see what you do with it. - V. A. The Void Architect knows he exists. And Talen is just now understanding what that means. Seven class paths were seeded into the System before launch. Hidden paths. Anomalous paths. Paths the System flagged, tried to suppress, and couldn't remove because whoever built them had access above every level the System recognized. Shadow Stalker is the fourth path. Three have been found.
Three haven't. Someone built all seven for a reason. Someone built Talen specifically as the convergence point - the path designed to find the others and hold whatever structure they're supposed to form. Not the strongest class. Not the fastest. The one that connects the rest. Which would be inspiring if he had any idea where the other six were, what they were designed to do, or why the System itself had been quietly working against him since the first registration terminal flagged his class with Advise System Query on Day 2.
He has one dungeon boss left in the Abyssal Rift. He has a faction war building across Chicago. He has a Dawnbreaker assassin who retreated from the Museum Campus and knows his face, his route, and his class rank. He has an Ironclad Compact that survived its humiliation and is regrouping with resources and anger in equal measure. He has Riven Cole running a Sanctuary with 450 people and partial information about a threat that might be larger than the apocalypse itself.
He has Sera and Breck, which is, in his honest assessment, the most tactically relevant fact available. And now he has a name. V. A. Two initials. No expansion. The signature of something that can write directly onto his status screen, bypass the System's formatting, and apparently track his progress in real time from a location and perspective he cannot begin to identify. The System chose him for a reason.
Something outside the System knows what that reason is. And Level 15 is not going to be enough. Every single victory is still earned. Every level still costs something real. And the enemy is no longer just the monsters.
