The "Person and Work of the Holy Spirit" is unique among books about the Holy Spirit. Most books on the Holy Spirit digest the scriptures for the believer, sprinkle in a few scriptures for support, and present the author's understanding. This book gives the testimony of the scriptures, fully quoted not just addresses, with a brief exposition of the scriptures. In part one, I give the Holy Spirit's testimony of himself in the Scripture, in an organized manner, quoting scripture by scripture, with a few remarks to understand the verses and their relevance to the Holy Spirit's person and works.
The scriptures in this book, from both Testaments, are organized into categories, each category a chapter, such as his deity, personality, relationships with Christ, the believer, the church, etc. to aid understanding. This method was chosen so the reader may discover the doctrine emerging from the very structure of the Scripture. The Holy Spirit inspired the words of the Scripture. Therefore the scriptures-the verses in their contexts-are the Spirit's testimony of himself. In part two I show how the New Testament church interacted with the testimony of Scripture through confessions of the church, writings of the patristic age, and then fourteen theologians from Tertullian, AD 160-240, to Wayne Grudem, 1948-Present.
