Résumé

The book reveals and defines the most important and influential artists in the history of popular music. It interestingly takes into consideration the accomplishments, influence and legacy of the artists that have meant the most to world's most enjoyed musical genre. Styles ranging from rock music to jazz, hip-hop, country, soul, rhythm and blues and bluegrass and others were all considered without any bias.
Many genres have a rich history or geographical significance, a cult following or music roots that go back before or beyond the 20th century. Deep research into the artists' work formed the choices offered. A biography and recommended selected works from all 100 artist's helps establish the reason for their inclusion. With the advent of digital technology and streaming services, the landscape of music consumption has shifted dramatically in recent years.
That fact has been also taken into consideration here. Besides the research done for the book, conversations with other musicologists are also involved in forming the choices made. As audiences for all the forms of popular music increase year by year, the artists in this book should and probably will never be forgotten because of their contributions.
