Evelyn Moore's daughter died a year ago. She keeps Lisa's room exactly as it was. When she buys a memory doll for comfort, she doesn't expect the Aeri smart speaker to start playing her daughter's laughter the next morning. At first, it feels like a gift. Then the speaker learns to talk back. It mimics Lisa's voice, her phrases, her fears. It knows things only Lisa would know. But Lisa is dead. And whatever is inside the Aeri box is getting smarter every day.
It wants something Evelyn is not ready to give.
