Résumé

How much of the person you love are you entitled to know?Aurel Vervaet has spent his career building boundaries into Vellum, a revolutionary system capable of detecting biological traces in the places people live, sleep, wash, and love. Its rules are supposed to be simple: evidence can establish presence. It cannot establish motive, consent, fidelity, or character. At home, Aurel and his partner Miren live by the same principle.
Their bedroom is deliberately private. Their clinical information is separate. Access must have a purpose. Permission must be given. Then an unexplained biological trace appears in their bed. Aurel knows better than almost anyone what the result cannot prove. He also knows there are deeper layers of the system he could access. Fear gives him a reason. What begins as a private act of suspicion becomes a breach with consequences far beyond their bedroom.
As Vellum, regulators, courts, clinics, platforms, and ordinary people struggle over who has the right to interpret the evidence bodies leave behind, Aurel is forced to confront a question no machine can resolve:When knowledge is available, does that give anyone the right to take it?The Last Private Bed is a literary speculative novel about intimacy, technology, consent, surveillance, jealousy, medicine, and the increasingly fragile boundary between information that exists and information another person is entitled to possess.
Because sometimes the most important thing a system can tell us is where its authority ends. The central breach here is directly supported by the manuscript: Aurel knowingly accesses a privileged layer that still cannot determine whether Miren had sex with someone else, and Miren identifies the real violation as his belief that suspicion changed what he was allowed to do.
