Résumé

The sea is swallowing Bellweather Island. Before the final ferries leave, ageing postmaster Arun Vale enters his flooded post office to rescue its remaining records. Hidden behind an old sorting cabinet, he finds an undelivered letter written by Leela, the daughter who has refused to speak to him for four years. The letter reveals that Leela has secretly returned to the condemned island. She is searching for a group of cannery workers whose names have been erased from employment records and excluded from the official evacuation list.
Their labour built Bellweather, yet the authorities are prepared to abandon them because formally acknowledging their existence would expose years of exploitation. Arun knows the island better than anyone. He remembers its vanished addresses, its unmarked houses and the private histories concealed behind ordinary doors. But Leela's letter contains a warning meant for herself: do not let her father choose for her again.
As the storm closes roads and the final ferry approaches, Arun must decide how far love permits him to interfere. Every name he reveals could save a life. It could also expose vulnerable people to detention, prosecution and loss. Every attempt to protect his daughter risks repeating the betrayal that drove her away. Set amid flooded streets, abandoned homes and a dead-letter room filled with messages that never reached their destinations, The Keeper of Unsent Letters is an emotionally charged literary novel about family estrangement, invisible labour, displacement and the difficult boundary between care and control.
For readers drawn to morally complex fiction, intimate family dramas and stories in which ordinary records carry the weight of human lives.
