Character is often reduced to personality or outward behavior, yet the classical traditions of moral philosophy offer a deeper account. This book presents a comparative study of character formation through the works of Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Ghazali and St. Thomas Aquinas. By examining the structure of the soul, the role of virtue, the discipline of intention, and the reality of moral struggle, this work develops a coherent framework for understanding ethical formation.
It argues that character is not incidental, but the result of sustained effort directed toward a defined purpose. Engaging both Islamic and Christian intellectual traditions, this study highlights their convergence on essential principles of moral life while preserving their distinctions. It addresses the challenges of the modern world, where external success often overshadows inner development, and offers a structured approach to rebuilding character.
