Résumé

The road sign appears on no map. It stands at the edge of a two-lane highway that Mara Whitlock has driven a hundred times, pointing toward a forest that satellite images insist does not exist. When Mara, her research partner Daniel Cross, and a small team follow the marker to what it calls Kilometer Zero, they find exactly what the sign promised: a wall of black trees swallowing the horizon, growing in a place the county records call an empty field.
At its center, half-buried beneath the roots, they uncover a leather journal belonging to a man named Ethan Blackwell, a hiker who vanished eleven years earlier. As Mara reads his final entries aloud around the campfire, the forest around them begins to change, rearranging itself to match the pages, as though the woods have been waiting for someone to finish Ethan's story. What began as an expedition to debunk a local legend becomes a race to escape a place that remembers every person who has ever walked into it, and never quite lets them leave.
Connor Hayes CH writes psychological horror and supernatural thrillers that blur the line between the everyday and the impossible. Drawn to forgotten roads, vanishing places, and the stories left behind by those who never made it home, Hayes crafts slow-burn tales of dread built on atmosphere rather than shock.
