Billy's mother dies during childbirth, but regardless of Billy's very apparent deformities, his Christian father accepts him as he is. He raises his son during the time of the arrival of the Newcomers from another world, and in a new world without electricity. With society struggling to accept the evolutionary setback of more than 150 years, slowly but surely strange things begin to happen on the farm.
