Résumé
Sage grew up in the city, but her father had regaled her with tales of farming. When he dies along with everyone else at the end of Earth, she decides on farming as a career. She takes a position as labourer and has just won a harvesting award when she runs afoul of the local overseer's companion. Apparently, being a line-dancing Terran is just too seductive for the companion's taste. A drugging, a spacecraft, and a one-way transport to the Temple of Companions is not what she signed up for.
Attacked on the vessel to the Temple, she is pulled together in Medical and continues to her destination. Training is remarkably simple and covers many of the same subjects that came so easily to her as a member of the first wave of recovered Terrans. One of her instructors thinks to test her again, and that is where her fate changes, and she becomes a target. Again. It's a good thing she can make friends anywhere.
