Sample Book Insights: #1 Sarah Simms Edge was expecting another child in August 1945, and was waiting anxiously for a letter from her husband, U. S. Navy commander Lawrence Lott Edge. She was sure that the war would soon be over, and that her husband would be coming home soon. #2 The letters continued to arrive from Guam before his seventh war patrol, and after his return in late May.
Something was wrong, however, when his letters suddenly stopped arriving. #3 The telegram that Sarah received in April 1942 informing her that her husband was missing in action was a nightmare for her. She had always feared that he would be killed in the war.
