This book details the turbulent and absurd papacy of Pope Blatantly IV, who attempts to reshape the world through decrees of extreme dryness and dogmatic control. His reign begins with an unprecedented land grab in Antarctica and quickly escalates into a worldwide legal crisis as he attempts to criminalise sin and monetise holiness through ventures like Pre-Death Canonizations and Indulgence Loyalty Points.
Blatantly IV's authoritarian actions, especially his denunciation of grease and culinary pleasure, trigger a spiritual counter-movement led by the mysterious prophet Frank and his followers, including various eccentrics and pseudo-prophets. The conflict culminates when Frank's allies orchestrate the systematic destruction of the Pope's sealed Grace Canisters, intentionally flooding Rome with unregulated holy water, leading to a Great Greasequake and the final, necessary Emulsification of Grace and Grease.
