Myth and legend begin with one person. After receiving Edith's file, everyone agrees to take the weekend to celebrate Bernard's birthday. The barbecue is the first gathering of their new group and has only one incident when Ava tells Gerald his secrets will be his undoing. Having seen such magic before, Bonnie pulls Ava away and makes excuses. For Neith knows something is about to happen. Monday morning, Gerald is gone.

When Ava and Bernard head to the office to begin the search, a young man arrives, asking after a case he had spoken to Gerald about the week before. The race is on to find Gerald before the Umbra discover he's missing and decide to blame his disappearance on the shadows. As they delve into the cold case, Gerald's secrets begin to surface, and Ava realizes Neith might be right but for the wrong reasons.
