In Sexuality on the Yard, Michael Good takes an honest look at one of the most misunderstood and rarely discussed parts of life behind bars: identity, intimacy, attraction, relationships, masculinity, and sexuality inside prison. The book explores people who entered prison openly gay, bisexual, or transgender, as well as those whose relationships and behavior behind the fence challenge the labels they used on the outside.
It examines prison couples, emotional attachments, companionship, masculinity, down-low culture, transactional relationships, consent, power imbalances, and the complicated ways loneliness and confinement can affect human connection. Good also addresses the realities faced by transgender people in prison and the difficult questions that can emerge when incarcerated people return home and attempt to reconcile their prison experiences with relationships, identities, and expectations on the outside.
This is not a book built around stereotypes or sensationalism.
