Résumé

Bilingual Tongan and English edition of Mangisi's stories about going to primary school in Kolovai, Hihifo, Tonga during the 1950's and early 1960's. He remembers learning to write with chalk on a slate and recounts games he played with his friends. He describes what it was like studying with all classes in the school together in one large hall-like room. He concludes with a story about the time he ran away from school, when he was boarding overnight as part of his preparation for high school exams.
He describes how he braved the ghosts he feared he might meet on his way home and how his classmates rescued him and brought him back to the school.
