Roots of Remembrance

Roots of Remembrance is a short story set at Thornhollow, an isolated estate where the wealthy pay to grow their memories into living plants. New curator Wren Calloway arrives skeptical and grieving her own mother, only to discover a stranger's stolen childhood memory blooming with no consent form attached. Drawn to Alistair Thorne, the estate's amnesiac heir, she learns his missing decade may be linked to a locked greenhouse where his uncle Julian has been secretly harvesting children's memories to keep his dead brother's mind alive.
A previous curator's hidden warning note sends Wren and Alistair toward a confrontation that exposes the family's darkest secret. Beneath the mystery runs a sharper truth: grief made beautiful and permanent is a luxury, while everyone else must simply remember, imperfectly, on their own.
