Religion und Philosophie sind wesentliche thematische Dimensionen des schulischen Unterrichts. Als komplexe Traditionsbestände eröffnen Religion und Philosophie am Ort der Schule vielfältige Antwortversuche auf wesentliche Sinn- und Orientierungsfragen des individuellen und gemeinschaftlichen Lebens. Zugleich stellen sich die damit verbundenen schulischen Unterrichtskontexte im internationalen Vergleich überaus unterschiedlich dar, was nicht zuletzt dem spezifischen Verständnis von Religionsneutralität geschuldet ist.
Die Beiträge des Bandes arbeiten die unterschiedlichen Rahmenbedingungen, Profile und Pfadabhängigkeiten des Religions- und Philosophieunterrichts in Deutschland, Frankreich, der Schweiz und Griechenland heraus. Dadurch soll zum einen der gegenwärtige Diskussionsstand der Entwicklung des jeweiligen Unterrichtsfachs und seiner institutionellen Verfasstheit in den einzelnen Ländern abgebildet werden.

At the same time, the educational contexts in schools are internationally very different, not at least dependent on the specific understandings of religious neutrality. The contributions to this volume explore the different frameworks, profiles and path dependencies of teaching religion and philosophy in Germany, France, Switzerland, and Greece. They give an overview of the current state of discussion regarding the development of these two teaching subjects und their institutional setting in the different countries, considering possible common perspectives of teaching religion and philosophy in Europe.
