Der Band beschreibt Bildungshintergründe in den Herkunftsländern, fragt aber auch die Geflüchteten nach ihren Vorstellungen und Erfahrungen zum guten Zusammenleben religiös unterschiedlicher Menschen. Fachbeiträge aus verschiedenen Disziplinen liefern das wissenschaftliche Fundament und erarbeiten gleichzeitig Ausbildungsstandards für soziale und pädagogische Berufe im interkulturellen Handlungsfeld.
Die Arbeitshilfe enthält außerdem theologische und literarische Fachbeiträge zur Narrativität, denn wo Geflüchtete selber zu Wort kommen, ist das Erzählen der eigenen Geschichten von besonderer Bedeutung.
