Marcus "Steel" Washington came home to bury his father and settle a debt. Instead, he found a town where the dying are suddenly healed, the missing aren't mourned, and the vines at the edge of the swamp glow blue after midnight. A black-budget defense contractor is using forbidden science to turn desperate people into living weapons, and the kudzu-an ancient consciousness buried since the last ice age-has begun waking up.
