Mathieu Ricard est le fils de l’académicien, essayiste et philosophe Jean-François Revel (né Jean-François Ricard) et de la célèbre peintre Yahne Le Toumelin. Né en février 1946, il marche dans les pas de ses parents en apportant une plus-value à la société et jouit d’une certaine notoriété. En effet, il est un docteur en génétique cellulaire, un auteur et photographe. D’origine française, ce moine tibétain vit au monastère de Shechen au Népal.
Connu pour sa simplicité de vie, son humilité et son amour pour les autres, Mathieu Ricard essaie de faire partager ses valeurs à ses contemporains en publiant l’œuvre « Plaidoyer pour l'altruisme - La force de la bienveillance ». Sorti en septembre 2013 aux Editions Nil, il incite dans ce livre tout le monde à reconnaître et à cultiver l’altruisme au quotidien.
Interprète français pour le dalaï-lama, Mathieu Ricard côtoie les plus grands maîtres spirituels tibétains. Et cela lui a valu de mieux expérimenter la méditation.
