Résumé
The year is 1869 and Vera decides to leave her abusive employer behind to become a Mail Order Bride. Vera Fauverney is the maidservant of the Yarboroughs, a cruel and wealthy family in New York City. After losing her mother and sister on malaria, as well as being threatened by the lecherous master of the house, she decides to leave for good. Over the next few months, Vera corresponds with Ephram Maloney, a farming Bachelor in Lexington, Nebraska and heads out to marry him.
Despite being a bit concerned with his temper towards others, things go rather well until his irresponsible brother, Joshua, comes to stay. While Ephram wants nothing to do with him, Vera sees his brother as an opportunity to be a good person and gain another family member. The growing tension, combined with a devastating plague to their livestock, serves to drive the marriage apart.
