Dieser Band geht in neun Essays und einer ausführlichen Einleitung den Mainzer Lehrstuhlinhabern der historischen Fächer seit der Universitätsneugründung 1946 bis in die 1980er Jahre nach, also den ersten beiden »Generationen« der Ordinarien. Über die biographischen Studien werden zugleich die Strukturen der Seminare, die Schwerpunkte in der Lehre, die Nachwuchsförderung und die wissenschaftlichen Leistungen der Protagonisten sichtbar.
Das Buch erhellt Wissenschaftsgeschichte an einer neuen Universität in der frühen Bundesrepublik am Beispiel eines der »großen Fächer« der Philosophischen Fakultät und ist ein wichtiger Beitrag zur Sozialgeschichte der Hochschullehrerschaft im Gefolge des NS-Staates. This volume presents the first two professors ordinarius of the historical field of studies of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since its reopening in 1946 to the 1980s with the help of nine essays and a comprehensive introduction.
The biographical studies also show the structures of the seminars, the focus of research, the promotion of young researchers and the academic achievements of the protagonists. This book enlightens scientific history at a new University in the early Federal Republic with the help of the example of important field of studies of the Faculty of Philosophy and is an important contribution to the social history of academics in the Nazi state.
