The War continues in Europe and Asia while the O'Flanagan family continues to be drawn into its clutches from all angles. While in London Sally and Shamus part ways in order to fulfil their destinies. The death of Janet Munn strikes hard and catapults Sally to be more determined than ever to do her bit. Flying to Indian with other ENSA members a Japanese Zero attacks the plane damaging one wing - they manage to land safely but terrified of what is to come! Soon Sally is transported with other entertainers into the heart of darkest Burma from the India base they must travel overland to camps in order to entertain.
Here she meets for the first time Sargent Miller. Shamus in Hawaii meets his counter parts who try and get him to persuade his government to commit as far as they can. To his astonishment the Ambassador for Ireland walks in with De Valera who joins the talks. In a secret meeting later- Captain Shamus is presented with a service medal for his work for G2 and Eire by his countries leader and promoted to Major after only two months as a Captain.
Rory is contacted by the government fearing his remaining two donkeys are about to leave, however to his astonishment, he is offered 30 goats and a ram to house on his fields and commanded to create milk and cheese for the army overseas. The letter also offers considerable funding to build sheds and milking equipment for the enterprise. Every two weeks the milk and cheese will be collected from his land.
Dean and his father realise this will save their business during the emergency. Thomas is shown the letter and the three start to plan the new dairy. The news of Father Murphy leaving for the front shocks the village. Letters from Burma disturb the Rory, Rosey and Jenny, all pray for deliverance. Rory shows Dean his respect by taking him to the still and handing over its care to the next generation as his father had to him.
