I don't know about you, but even though I was a small boy back then I held a special fascination with Sanrio products. They were cute and "Kawaii" even before the term became popular. My interest was purely from an aesthetic point of view but I already knew back then that these products which mainly appeal to the female gender has someting going good for it.
