Im Gegensatz zu den bisher vorrangig werkorientierten Untersuchungen zur frühbarocken Dichterin Sibylla Schwarz (1621-1638) versteht sich dieser Band durch eine kulturgeschichtliche Kontextualisierung ihrer Poesie als Korrektur und Erweiterung früherer Forschungen. Die Beiträger:innen zeigen aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive die zeitgenössischen und übergreifenden kulturellen Konzepte auf, die sich mit der Paradiesvorstellung im Ouvre von Schwarz verbinden: Frömmigkeit, Natursehnsucht, Land- und Stadtleben, Diesseits und Jenseits.
Ebenso wird ihre Dichtung in bislang wenig beachtete Kontexte gestellt: holländische Bezüge, medizinhistorische Hintergründe, literatur- und musikgeschichtliches Umfeld, europäische Vergleiche. Ziel ist, die materiellen, poetologischen, persönlichen und sozialen Vernetzungen in der Dichtung von Schwarz aufzuzeigen. The book offers new insights into the work of the celebrated German Baroque Poet Sibylla Schwarz through a process of multiple careful contextualizations.
Drawing on the disciplines of music and theatre history, as well as philology, theology and the history of medicine, it helps to correct errors and open up new avenues in the field of Schwarz scholarship. Moving outwards from the various ways in which the biblical notion of paradise figures in her work (as garden, arcadia, metaphysical marriage bed), it revisits her life and work in the light of the practices and discourses of the time, offers comparisons with contemporary authors of other nationalities and with later German-language writers; and thus places the poet at the centre of a series of interlocking spatio-temporal networks.
