Zur vormodernen Herrschaftsausübung gehörte das Einholen von Rat. Dies gilt für das vormoderne Europa ebenso wie für außereuropäische Gesellschaften. Dieser Band fokussiert sich auf diese spezifische Ratgeber-Herrscher-Situation. Die Beiträgerinnen und Beiträger fragen nach den Methoden des Ratgebens, den Mitteln, die zum Ratschlag benutzt wurden, den Kriterien der Legitimität und der Kompetenz von Ratgebern.
Welche Rolle spielten dabei Nähe und Distanz zwischen Herrscher und Ratgeber? Hatten sie Einfluss auf den Erfolg der Beratung? Ratgebersituationen dienen textintern als Forum narrativer Herrschaftskritik und textextern als effektives transkulturelles Herrschaftsinstrument der Vormoderne. The present volume focuses on this specific counsellor-ruler situation and asks about methods of giving counsel, the means used to give counsel, criteria of legitimacy and competence of counsellors, and what influence proximity and distance between ruler and counsellor played on the question of whether the counsel was successful, i.e. whether the counsel was listened to.
