Résumé

This book addresses the most important questions of our time: Is democracy compatible with good leadership? Is democracy capable of producing good leadership? The book answers these questions through an in-depth analysis of the concept and practice of democracy. It highlighted the fact that the mechanism of election that is basic to democracy is designed not to produce the best possible leaders, but rather to produce popular leaders, or leaders who are good at working the election system and who are great stage performers and great entertainers.
This is the fundamental democracy leadership deficit. That is why the widespread simplistic idea of democracy is leading to the uniquely modern populism movement which is now spreading like wildfires throughout the world. Yet, despite the many pseudo-democracies, there is still hope because there are still quiet happiness and free-trading bustling marketplaces in almost every country. This book examines the various failures of democracy in various countries due to the serious leadership deficits, and explores their causes and effects.
It considers what may happen in the future evolution of democracy and other political systems. Finally, it asks the question: Will there be a "paxcracy" when the power of peace trumps the power of freedom? Will peace on earth and goodwill to all men finally becomes a reality?
