Inhaltlich handelt es sich um eine summarische Zusammenstellung ausgewählter biblischer Geschichten, die den Anspruch erheben, die ganze Bibel zu repräsentieren. Die Wiedergabe der Texte orientiert sich am reformatorischen Schriftprinzip »allein die Schrift« . Die Daumen-Bibel hat als Adressaten Kinder und Heranwachsende im Blick.

Daumen-Bibeln stehen bei Sammlern von Miniaturbüchern seit langem hoch im Kurs, von der wissenschaftlichen Forschung sind sie bisher ignoriert worden.
