Résumé

A dusty store clerk with an American dream. One railroad to span a nation. Ruthless ambition threatens to lead him from royalty into ruin. Collis Huntington, the last living member of the Associates, wants to set the record straight while he still can. He invites his most critical reporter into his home for the interview of the century. The public thinks they know the truth. Changing the minds of millions and rewriting the course of history won't be easy.
As his story of the Central Pacific Railroad Company unfolds, its truths emerge. The Associates' rise to power. Sordid affairs. Traitorous maneuvering. Treasonous fleecing by their rivals back east. A Gilded Age Victorian drama replete with corruption, passion, conspiracies, corporate espionage, and sways of power. A single engineering marvel will transform them from dusty Sacramento store owners into the most powerful men on Earth.
J. E. Dyer writes in several different genres including romance, historical fiction, and literary fiction. One of his recent novels, Barons, won for best overall work in West Virginia in the Indie Author Project's annual writing competition and was short-listed in Chanticleer's Van Goethe Award for best historical fiction. He has also written for the Los Angeles Times where some of his fiction won their Reader's Choice Award for best story of the year.
He is a member of the Romance Writers of America. When he's not writing, Dyer likes to read, study languages, play video games, and bake.
